Quincy Adams's presidential portrait was painted in 1858 by George Healy. In the portrait, Quincy Adams was seen holding a book in his left hand. His right hand was resting upon a paper with George Washington's face drawn on it. Quincy Adams served from 1825 to 1829 as president, but this painting was actually drawn ten years after he died, and 29 years after his presidential career.
In Quincy Adams's first election he beat Andrew Jackson. The election was held in 1824. This map shows that neither candidates earned the majority of electoral votes, so the decision was left to the House of Representatives. Quincy Adams won the election but then lost four years later after another bitter campaign against Andrew Jackson.
